Dawn of a Dark Age is an atmospheric and experimental black metal project from Agnone, Molise, founded in January 2014 by Eurynomos and Buran. From its inception, the band distinguished itself through an avant‑garde approach that fused black metal intensity with unconventional instrumentation, layered atmospheres, and a strong conceptual backbone. Their early work explored themes of nature, human nature, despair, and hatred, expressed through dissonant structures and a raw emotional palette.

The project’s first creative cycle, The Six Elements (2014–2017), unfolded across five full‑length albums, each dedicated to a different elemental force—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Spirit. This series established Dawn of a Dark Age as one of Italy’s most ambitious experimental black metal acts, blending clarinet, piano, and folk textures with harsh vocals and avant‑garde composition. The cycle’s conceptual unity and evolving sound marked the band as a unique presence within the Italian underground.

After a hiatus between 2017 and 2020, the project returned with a renewed artistic direction focused on Italian history, myth, and cultural memory. La Tavola Osca (2020) inaugurated this new era, drawing inspiration from the ancient Oscan people and their ritual traditions. The following album, Le Forche Caudine 321 a.C – 2021 d.C. (2021), bridged ancient events with modern identity, reflecting the band’s deepening engagement with historical narrative.

Subsequent releases—including the singles I regi tratturi and Il gran tratturo magno (2023), and the full‑length Transumanza (2023)—continued this exploration of pastoral routes, ancestral migrations, and the cultural landscapes of central Italy. Dawn of a Dark Age’s modern phase is marked by a blend of atmospheric black metal, folk elements, and experimental composition, all rooted in a profound sense of place and heritage.

Signed to My Kingdom Music, the band remains active and forward‑moving, with the upcoming album Ver Sacrum (2025) set to expand their historical and mythological vision even further. Dawn of a Dark Age stands today as one of Italy’s most distinctive experimental black metal projects—restless, conceptual, and deeply tied to the land and stories that shaped it.
